Two spiffy bits of news to share for today. One story I read awhile back, but hung onto it for awhile and the other just came out today. Here’s the scoop(s)
I was interested to note that God uses Bank One and that His checks won’t clear the bank! Our church has its account at Bank One and I am glad to know that this is the divinely approved establishment. His account is running too low to clear $50,000? I wonder what He spent it all on…
Oh dear, it looks like God has maxed out on his PayPal purchases… that explains it.
On the Evangelistic front, The Journey church in St. Louis figures, if young folks can’t find Jesus in the Bible, maybe they can find Him at the bottom of a beer stein. At least these folks would have a better excuse for whooping, hollering, and falling all over eachother than those at a Benny Hinn service. I wonder if they use unfermented juice during communion… I’m starting to think that maybe the ‘Garrett’s Creek church and casino’ has a nice ring to it… you know… for the young people… you call it sin, I call it ‘emergent‘.
That’s all for now, I wonder if any of my readers have thoughts on these stories? Let’s talk about it!
We all have a tendency to miss details that are this obvious. We miss evangelistic opportunities that are right in front of our faces. We overlook problems that our brethren are having, when we should have been moving to help them months ago. We overlook possible converts due to our own notions of who is ‘convertable’… Are these harmless oversights, or are we skating on thin ice? Read On –>
Does anyone see anything wrong with this headline? It makes me think of the old saying about ‘not seeing the forest for the trees.’ It seems like the emphasis should be on not mailing ANY grenades instead of focusing on the fake ones! It seems that we sometimes fall into this trap as Christians too. While it is important to follow Christ in particulars, we need to stop and assess whether we are still following the major precepts as well. (see Matthew 23:23)
I’ve heard this problem referred to as, “majoring in minors.” We all have a tendency to do this, we get dragged down with the mundane details of our jobs, of cleaning the kitchen, changing diapers, walking the dog, going to the gym, etc. Sometimes we start focusing on these small details until we are on the brink of insanity. It is not until we step back and see the big picture of WHY we work (to support our family), why we clean and change diapers (to keep a happy and healthy home and family), why we go to the gym (to stick around awhile longer)… that we see that these details are necessary if we want to meet our major goals.
So as we strive to keep a proper pattern of worship, strive to preach by a ‘thus saith the Lord’, strive to go through our day without cussing, drinking, knocking someone out, running over someone in a fit of road rage, etc… Let us take a few moments EVERY day to step back and remember the MAJOR reasons for doing these minor things, and then take time to thank God for every reason we can think of.
Thanking the Lord daily for all that I have and all that I am, ~JW
Its been quite a while since I last posted to our blog, but there are two news stories that caught my attention recently and I thought they may interest my readers as well. One is news from the ‘religious’ world and the other is a piece about a recent scientific discovery. Please read on as I rant about each one in turn. Enjoy!
