A question about discouragement and repentance
mediterranean for six months in which i did not attend church. I was in
Italy and Greece and I had a problem finding one. When the
deployment was over i felt like i had lost interest but tried going back
anyway. I did miss service often. When i was discharged i came back
home and i havent been since. I felt discouraged before and now
having fallen back into a lifestyle that i should not be in im even more
discouraged. I started reading the bible again and doing research
trying to find out what i should do. My faith wasnt very strong before
and i see myself as being a hypocrite. I know that if i do not repent my
punishment will be harsh. I know that i need to go back to church and
change my lifestyle. What else should i do to be right with God again?

A question on divorce and remarriage
|
I am really struggling with the marriage and divorce issue. I divorced
years ago for reasons of fornication. Overwhelmed by grief, I fell away from the faith into addiction and a sinful life style. I since then repented and am back active in the church. I have not remarried for fear that in my past I might have come close to doing things that would prevent me from marrying again. I have been told that God forgives us for past sins once we repent, but I don’t think that alone frees me to marry again. I know others who have married on that notion, but I can’t find anything like that in the bible. Clarify in scripture for me that if you are able. ~ Stephanie

March 29, 2005A question on our beliefs concerning the communionMindy, you asked: What is the Church of Christ’s understanding/theology of the Lord’s Supper? Why do you practice it? What are the benefits? What is the meaning of this practice? Who partakes? etc. Thank you for your questions! I will answer them one at a time, and hopefully I won’t leave anything out. If I do, just let me know. My attempt is to answer your question with the scriptures and not with “I thinks” or “our pastor says”, etc. etc. I hope you find the following thoughts helpful.

March 17, 2005A question about the number of cups in the Lord’s SupperI really enjoyed reading your site. I would like to ask about the “one cup” at communion. You failed to site the next verse in Matt. 26. Verse 29 clearly puts the emphasis on the contents of the cup “fruit of the vine”. The emblams are what is important. The unlevened bread…Christ’s body…The fruit of the vine …Christ’s blood. ” Do this in rememberance of me…” A cup(s) does not remind you of His death. I am a member of the church and do not desire to strain at gnats with you. Would you only sing psalms in worship or do you use a hymnal with traditional songs like “Amazing Grace”or “everlasting Arms” Thanks for your time and your great website! ~ Trent from Gilbertsville, KY

February 9, 2005An encouraging commentI am writing you to compliment you on your incredible web site. It is awesome! In my opinion, it is the best web site in our brotherhood- hands down. It provides both a scriptural basis for what we believe, but good lessons to review, and current topics. You guys have done a great job on this!!! My best to the faithful brethren in WV ~ from a Bro. in Nashville, TN. Thegospelfortoday.com says: THANKS!
